I-95 New Haven Project

Connecticut Historical Commission

Project Overview

The Connecticut Department of Transportation's I-95 New Haven Harbor Crossing Corridor Improvement Program includes the replacement of the Pearl Harbor Memorial Bridge. This will require the removal and relocation or demolition of the Adee Boathouse at 74 Forbes Avenue in New Haven. Used as Yale University's primary boathouse between 1910 and 1923, the ornate Jacobethan-style structure has been determined eligible for listing on the National Register of Historic Places. In consultation with the Connecticut Historical Commission, the City of New Haven, and the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation, the Connecticut Department of Transportation, as partial mitigation for the adverse effects to the boathouse, agreed to create a Web site on the history of collegiate crew in Connecticut.
